Over 1,900 Anaheim Union High School District students will earn State Seal of Civic Engagement

The Anaheim Union High School District has announced that over 1,900 AUHSD students will earn the new State Seal of Civic Engagement, which encourages students to become active participants in democracy. To earn the seal, students must demonstrate excellence in civic learning, participation in civics-related projects, contributions to their community, and an understanding of the United States Constitution, the California Constitution, and the American democratic system. “The future of our democracy depends on a knowledgeable and actively engaged citizenry,” said State Board President Linda Darling-Hammond. “With this new seal, we hope to prepare all students with an empathetic concern for others, a deep understanding of democracy, and the civic engagement skills needed to contribute to the welfare of their local communities, the state, and the country.”

San Diego Superior Court gets another extension for arraignments, trials during pandemic

Print The San Diego Superior Court will continue to use emergency authorization from the state court leader to extend legal deadlines for holding some arraignments and trials, as it continues to try to bring court operations back to pre-pandemic levels. But meeting that goal is likely some months away, according to the court’s own estimation. In an application to extend the time for holding an arraignment for people in custody the first court appearance for someone charged with a crime where a plea is entered and bail set Presiding Judge Lorna Alksne wrote that officials are working on a plan to hold all such hearings within the legal timeline of 48 hours after an arrest.

High Court Says All Recorded Cell Calls Need Consent Law360 (April 1, 2021, 10:49 PM EDT) Both parties and nonparties must get consent from everyone on a cellular or wireless phone call before making a recording, the California Supreme Court ruled Thursday, reversing an appellate court s finding that only third-party eavesdroppers must get consent. Cantil-Sakauye, agreed with plaintiff Jeremiah Smith that Section 632.7 of the California Penal Code requires all participants on a phone call to consent to a recording, overturning a 2019 ruling from the Fourth Appellate District. This interpretation reflects the most sensible reading of the statutory text, is consistent with the relevant legislative history, and.

RHOBH s Meets RICO

RHOBH’s Meets RICO MY TURN RICO stands for Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (18 U.S.C. §§ 1961–1968) and was designed to stop the Mafia, La Costa Nostra, wise-guys, etc.  As RHOBH’s Erika Jayne saga unfolds, the extent to which Erika participated in corrupt activities is murky, except for her spending vast sums of money.  According to Los Angeles attorney, James Spertus, of Spertus, Landes & Umhofer, who is suing Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi, Girardi’s activities may be likened to a Ponzi Scheme.   Substantial funds from lawsuit settlements seem to have been withheld from the victims but instead squandered in a lavish lifestyle of mansions, trips, expensive cars as if Girardi were a Televangelist.   Like Bernie Madoff, Girardi thought he could pay earlier clients from later settlements, but Erika was an unsustainable drain on Tommy’s funds.  Erika’s ability to spend was unlimited; Tom’s ability to earn was finite.
