The Allahabad High Court in India has resumed hearing the plea against the district court s order that directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey to determine if the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi was built upon a temple. Anjuman Intezamia Masjid managing the mosque filed a plea before the high court as the Supreme Court put ASI s survey on hold till 5pm Wednesday.
The management of Anjuman Intezamia Masjid, the mosque next to Kashi Vishwanath temple, moved the high court a day after the Supreme Court halted the ASI survey until Wednesday. The mosque s counsel appealed for an early hearing of the case before Chief Justice Diwaker stating that there is urgency as the apex court s order will expire on the same day.
The Supreme Court revived a plea by the Gyanvapi panel, which it had inadvertently disposed of. The Allahabad High Court resumed hearing a plea challenging an order instructing the ASI to survey whether the Gyanvapi mosque was built over a temple.
