The Trump administration does not have to provide an additional $60 per month in food stamp benefits to poor Californians who now receive the maximum nationwide amount under the nutrition program, a divided federal appeals court ruled Thursday.
About 4.5 million Californians in 2.4 million households receive an average of $166 per month in food stamps. The ruling affects 1 million of those households that have no outside income, said attorney Lindsay Nako of the Impact Fund, who represented those seeking additional aid.
