MIDDLEBORO  A Middleboro police officer is being hailed as a hero for potentially saving the life of a driver who was unconscious inside a burning vehicle. Police and firefighters responded to a crash in which a vehicle struck a utility pole in the area of 285 Wood St. about 9:39 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was reported to be on fire. Police Chief Joseph Perkins said Officer Brad Savage arrived within about a minute and saw fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle, but noticed that it was quickly spreading to the main cabin of the 2008 Ford Escape. Savage noticed the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, unconscious and slouched over the steering wheel.
