Outfitting all sworn officers has taken a little longer than expected, with grant funding delays pushing back the process. But the agency-wide policy is expected to take effect this week.
Assistant Chief Eric Lowe said those strapping on the cameras will include administrative staff, detectives, and community services staff. Up until now, it s been mainly just first responders that had the body worn cameras, Lowe told the Urban County Council in March.
The new policy will extend all the way up to and including the chief of police.
The change comes just a week after city leaders passed an ordinance banning the use of no-knock warrants in Lexington.
