Officers recognized at Peace Officers Memorial ceremony
Dozens of law enforcement officers and community members gathered on Friday to honor the memories of seven police officers and sheriff’s deputies killed in the line of duty.
The service was held in advance of Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, which is celebrated on May 15.
For each of the seven people listed on the Fallen Heroes Monument, officers and sheriff’s deputies read aloud a brief overview of their services, their last day of watch and how they died.
Each report was concluded with the ringing of a silver bell.
Also included in this year’s memorial were remembrances for Tyler Herndon, a Cleveland County native and Mount Holly police officer who was shot and killed in December 2020.
