PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. - Pasquotank County Sheriff s Office provided updates in a video statement Saturday after the family of Andrew Brown and protesters call for body camera footage of the fatal shooting involving a deputy.
Pasquotank County Sheriff Wooten says that the office wants the bodycam footage of the shooting to be made public, but says that it is not the office s decision.
Sheriff Wooten emphasized that only a judge can release the video. He says that he has asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to confirm that its release will not undermine their investigation.
North Carolina sheriff says he wants footage of Andrew Brown Jr. police shooting made public and may file motion Monday
Pasquotank County, North Carolina, Sheriff Tommy Wooten said Saturday he wants body cam footage of the fatal police shooting of Andrew Brown Jr. made public.
“Only a judge can release the video,” Wooten said in a video message posted on Facebook. “That’s why I’ve asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to confirm for me that the releasing of the video will not undermine their investigation.”
Once he gets that confirmation, the sheriff said the county will file a motion in court, “hopefully Monday,” to have that footage released. His announcement followed calls from Elizabeth City leaders for the footage to be released.
