FAIRFIELD, CT Capt. Robert Kalamaras is now officially Chief Robert Kalamaras.
A 21-year veteran of the Fairfield Police Department, Kalamaras was sworn in to the new role during a ceremony Friday at Penfield Pavilion. I am humbled and honored to have been entrusted with the job of leading the Fairfield Police Department into the future, Kalamaras said in a department news release. It is a task I do not take lightly, but it is one I know I can achieve by working hand-in-hand with the men and women of the department, with town leadership and with the members of the community.

FAIRFIELD, CT Capt. Robert Kalamaras is poised to become the next police chief in Fairfield after the town s police commission unanimously voted to recommend him for the role.
Kalamaras will replace outgoing Chief Christopher Lyddy, who spent nearly four decades working for the department and the last two years leading it. I am very excited to be selected as the next chief of police, Kalamaras said in a prepared statement after his recommendation was announced Tuesday night. I could not have done it without the support of my fellow officers, and the leadership and mentorship of Chief Chris Lyddy.

FAIRFIELD, CT Since he began working full-time at the Fairfield Police Department in 1982, Chief Christopher Lyddy has gone by many names: patrolman, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, deputy chief, and, as of two years ago, chief.
Starting Friday, he ll add a new title to the list: Police department veteran.
In anticipation of his upcoming retirement, Lyddy took a few minutes to talk with Fairfield Patch Field Editor Anna Bybee-Schier and reflect on his career, the evolution of police work, and some of the most pressing issues facing law enforcement in 2021.

FAIRFIELD, CT After nearly four decades of service with the Fairfield Police Department, Chief Christopher Lyddy will retire in January 2021, the department announced Wednesday. Looking back on my 38-year career, I have been blessed to work alongside some of the finest individuals this profession has ever produced, Lyddy said in a department news release. I am the product of many officers and supervisors who came before me and shaped me through the years.
Lyddy was first introduced to the department in 1976 at age 16, when he joined the Fairfield Police Explorer Program. Three years later, while pursuing a bachelor s degree in criminal justice at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, he was hired as a special officer in Fairfield to work the summer and holiday seasons.
