Scaffolding and fencing were erected in front of the Palace Hotel this week in an effort to protect pedestrians while the future of the crumbling structure is still being decided.
The Ukiah City Council voted unanimously Wednesday afternoon to approve a resolution ordering the owner of the Palace Hotel to take significant action within the next 30 days to either stabilize the building to mitigate its risks to public safety, or obtain a permit to demolish the crumbling structure.
After an inspection last month reportedly revealed that the Palace Hotel has "deteriorated dramatically" in recent years, the Ukiah City Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday to consider an order to have the building demolished.
