STEELERS START WORKOUTS FOR BROWNS FINALE

Indiana, PA / WDAD AM1450 & 100.3FM Dec 31, 2020 9:00 AM The Steelers opened practice for this week’s regular-season finale against Cleveland with a number of players resting. Injured players who sat out included defensive linemen Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu and safety Terrell Edmunds.  Others on the sidelines for rest included Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro, T.J. Watt, and Cam Heyward. Returning to the practice field after sitting out last week’s game against the Colts were linebacker/safety Marcus Allen, kicker Chris Boswell, and linebacker Ola Adeniyi. The Pittsburgh chapter of the Pro Football Writers Association named Roethlisberger the winner of the Chief Award – named after Steelers founder Art Rooney – for cooperation with the media, and the Joe Greene Great Performance Award for rookie of the year to wide receiver Chase Claypool.

‘The Chief’ Award is given to a player on the Pittsburgh Steelers who is known for their cooperation with the media. Ben Roethlisberger previously won the award in 2010. Other current Steelers to win the award are Cameron Heyward in 2014 and 2019, David DeCastro in 2017, and Joe Haden in 2018. The Joe Greene Great Performance award is given to the Steelers top rookie each season. In 2020, Chase Claypool was chosen for the award after posting 57 receptions for 772 yards and 8 receiving touchdowns, along with 2 rushing touchdowns, through 15 games of his rookie season. Awarded since 1984, Claypool joins fellow award winners Devin Bush in 2019, Terrell Edmunds in 2018, JuJu Smith-Shuster in 2017, Sean Davis in 2016, Bud Dupree in 2015, Maurkice Pouncey in 2010, and Ben Roethlisberger in 2004.

It s the time of year when honors are handed out and that was the case when Ben Roethlisberger and Chase Claypool were both honored by the Pittsburgh Chapter of Pro Football Writers of America. Roethlisberger is the winner of The Chief Award, while Claypool won the Joe Greene Great Performance Award, presented to the team s top rookie. The Chief Award, which was established in honor of Steelers founder, Arthur J. Rooney, Sr., is presented annually to a member of the Steelers organization that best exemplifies the spirit of cooperation with the media that he embodied. This is the second time Roethlisberger won the award, previously doing so in 2010.
