The police in Benue State, on Tuesday, arraigned the 17-year-old girl, Esther Alex, who allegedly set her boyfriend ablaze.
The suspect was arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court 8 located at North Bank, Makurdi.
According to the First Information Report titled: ‘Mischief by fire and culpable homicide’, nee Esther Alex of No. 1 Zaki Biam Street, Wadata, Makurdi, went to the house of Mr Chidimma Omah, 28, at No 17 Yandev Street, Makurdi, and poured petrol on the house, while he was asleep, and set it ablaze.
“As a result, the room was engulfed in fire, which burnt down the entire property, whose value is not yet known, together with Mr Chidimma Omah, who sustained grave burns and subsequently died while receiving treatment at the hospital,” the FIR stated in part.
Nigeria –The magistrate court sitting in Makurdi, Benue state has remanded 17-year-old Esther Alex, who burnt her boyfriend, in Correctional Centre, Makurdi.
Recall that Chidinma Ikechukwu Omah, a patent medicine dealer, died after he was set ablaze by the accused in Wadata suburb of Makurdi.
The case which came for mention, on Tuesday, January 19, has the First Information Report read to the accused. The FIR, titled,â Mischief by Fire and Culpable Homicideâ read in parts;
“That one Esther Alex âFâ of no 1, Zaki Biam street, Wadata Makurdi went to the house of Mr Chidimma Omah âMâ, 28 years old, at No 17, Yandev street, Makurdi and poured petrol in it while he was asleep and set him ablaze.Â

At the mention of the case at Magistrate Court 8 located at North Bank, Makurdi, the first information report was read to the girl.
The FIR titled, ‘Mischief by Fire and Culpable Homicide’, read that “one Esther Alex ‘F’ of No. 1, Zaki Biam street, Wadata Makurdi went to the house of Mr Chidimma Omah ‘M’ 28 years old at No. 17, Yandev street, Makurdi and poured petrol in it while he was asleep and set him ablaze.
