Service members killed while conducting an operation in afghanistan. Information still coming in. Lets get straight to Matthew Chance live from moscow. What are we learning . Reporter well, we dont know much at this stage, but there has been a press statement reached by Nato Resolute support saying that two u. S. Service members were killed while conducting an operation on this day march 22 inside afghanistan. The statement says in accordance with the u. S. Department of defense policy, the name of the Service Names killed are being withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin has been notified. So it may well be until tomorrow. But it does bring to fore the number of Service Personnel killed just this year alone, more than 2300 have been killed since the war began more than 17 years ago now. And that is underlying concerns and

There were no Additional Details at this time. This is the third and fourth u. S. Death in avenue in 2019. And it really underscores that despite talks between the u. S. Government and the taliban that have shown some progress, that fighting between the Afghan Government backed by the u. S. And taliban continues. Very violence. The afghans just celebrating their new year and sometimes you see an increase in attacks against government forces, against coalition troops. Were still looking to find out more information about these two deaths. But again, even these talks which the u. S. Hopes might bring an end to this war have proven contentious, it has led to hot rhetoric between the u. S. And officials in afghanistan who feel like they are being left out as the u. S. Seeks to continue these talks
