Monty has been in Chicago for awhile, but former nesting mate Rose hasn’t arrived. Still, “we aren’t going to make any assumptions at the moment,” said Armand Cann, a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The new plover was sighted late afternoon Tuesday, and was identified as a 5-year-old female who usually nests at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan.
