今年5月玉山大火燒12天才撲滅，延燒面積79.7公頃，損失達2億元，NCC前專委喬建中等5名登山客稱是不慎踢翻爐火，南投地檢署檢察官經登山現勘，及採衛星影像等資料，查出該場火是喬建中等人鋸或撿拾枯木、木塊及杜鵑營地四周枯損的竹木及餘留的殘材生火引起，起火點在信義鄉境內，檢方將喬建中等5人依違反《森林法》提起公訴，最重刑為7年，因喬等人犯後態度不佳，請法官從重量刑，並將協助受害者求償。
