Taipei, May 9 (CNA) Hsing Tai-chao (邢泰釗) took office as head of the Supreme Prosecutors Office on Monday, becoming the 12th prosecutor-general of Taiwan's highest prosecutorial body.
The former chief prosecutor in Taipei, Hsing Tai-chao (邢泰釗), assumed his new position as prosecutor-general at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Justice yesterday.
Among his priorities are cracking down on vote-buying and illegal campaign activities ahead of the local elections in November, and setting up a high-tech communications platform to combat new forms of online crime, Hsing said.

Lawmakers on Tuesday approved the appointment of veteran prosecutor Hsing Tai-chao (邢泰釗) as prosecutor-general of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office.
Despite Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) legislators boycotting the confirmation vote, the 113-seat legislature approved Hsing’s nomination in a 65-0 vote, with 48 abstentions.
Hsing, who is head prosecutor of the Taiwan High Prosecutors’ Office, said after the confirmation vote that he would insist on judicial independence and uphold professionalism in his new position.
He would encourage prosecutors to continue improving their knowledge and skills in safeguarding the public interest while protecting the rights of individuals, he said.

Taipei, April 26 (CNA) Taiwan's Legislative Yuan on Tuesday voted to approve the appointment of veteran prosecutor Hsing Tai-chao (邢泰釗) as the chief of Taiwan's highest prosecutorial body.
Veteran prosecutor Hsing Tai-chao (邢泰釗) was nominated by President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Thursday to head Taiwan’s highest body of prosecution.
The president named the chief of the High Prosecutors’ Office to replace the incumbent prosecutor-general of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, Chiang Hui-ming (江惠民), whose tenure ends on May 7, Presidential Office spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said in a statement.
Hsing’s nomination requires confirmation by the Legislative Yuan.
Hsing was one of five prosecutors recommended by the Prosecutors Association after an internal vote within the department to solicit names of top candidates.
Hsing, 63, has been a prosecutor for more than three decades, and
