KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Preparations for the Chhath festival are in full swing in Pashupatinath Temple, with locals and organizations actively participating in decorating water bodies. Activities such as cleaning, electricity connection, tent setup, construction of Chhath ghats and other preparations are in progress at Pashupatinath.
The Sandhya Arghya ritual takes place on the third day of the Chhath Puja festivities, hence will be observed on Sunday, November 19th this year. It involves offering prayers to the setting sun. This ritual holds deep cultural and spiritual significance and is performed at a water body, preferably a riverbank or a pond. Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi on Saturday said the government has built over 1,000 Chhath ghats across Delhi so that anyone in the city can celebrate the festival.
Chhath is a significant festival observed by the inhabitants of Purvanchal, Eastern UP, and Bihar, residing in Delhi, dedicated to worshipping the Sun. The city government has arranged over 900 ghats for devotees to perform Sun god worship.
An order issued by Excise department on Thursday said all liquor vends will stay closed as Surya Shashti (Chhath Puja) on Sunday has been declared a dry day.
