Cherryland Electric Cooperative Awards Grant To Small Businesses

9 & 10 News May 20, 2021 Cherryland Electric Cooperative has awarded $50,000 to the Regional Resiliency Program, administered by Venture North Funding and Development to help small businesses recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. “On behalf of small businesses that need financial help and encouragement, we want to again express our heartfelt appreciation to our friends at Cherryland,” said Laura Galbraith, President of Venture North. “Their compassion and wonderful donation to help businesses with nine or fewer employees during these extraordinarily times speaks volumes about the great company they are. Just as we are thankful for the progress toward a more normal time, so must we be mindful that small businesses, their owners and employees are suffering from being shut down, losing revenue and cash reserves and, in many cases, customers and suppliers.”

9 & 10 News May 12, 2021 Cherryland Electric Cooperative is making sure you’re safe with some safety demonstrations. Before you do any spring gardening or outdoor projects, Cherryland wants to be sure you call Miss Dig, first. Our On The Road Crew, Gabriella and Stephanie, are showing us some safety demonstrations. Cherryland is also going over what to do if you encounter a down line after a storm or if you are in an accident with a power pole.

The battle for rooftop solar in Michigan

5:48 Batteries are more efficient, the price of solar panels has plummeted, and solar customers are no longer restricted to the liberal crowd concerned about their carbon footprint.  “We can sell it to essentially both sides of the aisle,” says Ian Olmsted, president of Peninsula Solar.  For Olmsted, it’s obvious why there’s so much interest in the technology. “Basically it comes down to price. I mean, you can be sending your kid to college for what you are paying electric rates in the U.P. for,” he says. Yet despite all the potential for residential solar in Michigan, there’s a huge cloud hanging over the industry. Olmsted says state policy is crippling expansion especially in the Upper Peninsula.
