The Makhanda high court last week put the final nail in the coffin of the aspirations of two powerful companies to seismically blast the diverse and ecologically sensitive Wild Coast in their hunt for oil and gas. It set aside the exploration licence, and subsequent renewals of that licence, which gave international oil and gas giant Shell and its local partner, Impact Africa, permission to conduct the potentially environmentally devastating hunt for fossil fuels along the Wild Coast.
