CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 147 Covid-19 deaths on Saturday the highest number of deaths reported in a day since the pandemic began in 2020. The state reported 19,588 new cases, which took the active cases 1,17,405. The cumulative case tally touched 11.86 lakh and the toll reached 14,193.
While the state has been reporting deaths in three digits for the past three days, the highest number of deaths it reported was on August 15, 2020, when 127 deaths were reported. Public health experts say the increase in number of deaths is because of increase in the total tally and the case fatality rate is around 1.2% lower than the 1.5% recorded between September 2020 and the first week of March.
