Picture used for representational purpose only The public health department has been collecting at random blood (serum and plasma) samples from about 26,000 people in 888 clusters since March 27 for TN’s second serosurveillance for Covid-19. The survey would go on till the end of April as some districts began the survey after the polls. Director of public health Dr T S Selvavinayagam said one of the objectives of the sero survey is to find if the community has developed herd immunity. Preliminary results could be expected a month after the survey ends. The sample population is also being asked to answer a questionnaire on occupation, exposure status, age, sex, travel history etc, which would give a more detailed account of the disease.

Privacy or reputation earned by a person during his or her lifetime extinguishes with death. After the death of a person, the reputation earned cannot be inherited like a movable or immovable property by his or her legal heirs, a division bench of Justice R Subbiah and Justice Sathikumar Sukumara Kurup said on Friday. The judges made the observations while dismissing an appeal by J Deepa, niece of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, seeking to stop the release of a biopic, Thalaivi , apparently based on the life of the former CM.

Picture used for representational purpose only CHENNAI: Reaching all-time highs of 8,449 fresh Covid-19 cases and 61,593 active cases, Tamil Nadu on Friday reported 33 deaths, the highest this year. The records pushed the total confirmed cases, as on Thursday, to 9,71,384 and the death toll to 13,032. Of the fresh cases reported on Friday, 310 were in the 0-12 age group, 6,910 were in the 13-60 age group and 1,229 were aged 60 and above. Since the beginning of the week, the number of children being infected has been between 225 and 288. At least 21 of the 38 districts registered a three-digit spike in cases. With 2,636 new cases, Chennai continued to be a hotspot pushing the active case count to 22,420. Neighbouring Chengelpet, with 795 new cases, recorded the second highest in TN. The Chennai region, which includes Chengelpet, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur, alone had 32,436 (52.3% of the state’s share) people under treatment.
