Ford workers in Maraimalai Nagar, in the southern Tamilnadu state near the state capital Chennai, have had no communication from management and the union six weeks after the plant's closure.
The SUV was the last to be rolled out from the assembly line and the company would continue production of aftersales parts till month-end, a company official said on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Ford India workers involved in a wildcat strike, Ford workers at the Saarlouis plant in Germany, and Will Lehman, a US Mack Trucks worker running for president of the UAW.
A militant, more than month-long strike by workers at Ford’s Tamil Nadu assembly plant was arbitrarily shut down by the union last Saturday after it signed an agreement with management that completely abandoned the workers’ demand for job security.
