Tamil Nadu witnesses spike in vaccination numbers for fourth consecutive day, over 81,000 people inoculated

More than 81,000 people were inoculated taking the total state toll to 6.7 lakh. Also, Tamil Nadu recorded 482 positive cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, thereby taking the state toll to 8,53,449, as per the health bulletin.  Four people succumbed to the contagious virus disease on March 4, pushing the fatality count to 12,508 in the state, the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.

Neighbouring Kerala is also continuously reporting daily cases between the range of 4,000 and 6,000. The positivity rate is high in many States, such as Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The public have become careless because Tamil Nadu has a positivity rate of 0.9%,” he told presspersons.

Tamil Nadu reports 449 fresh COVID-19 cases

As many as 449 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Monday. Chennai reported 151 cases, Coimbatore 40 and Chengalpattu 34. The fresh cases took the State’s tally to 8,48,724. Two returnees from Kerala and West Bengal were among those who tested positive for the infection. There was no new case in Kallakurichi, while 25 districts clocked fresh cases in single digits. Chennai’s overall case count stood at 2,34,491, followed by Coimbatore (55,502) and Chengalpattu (52,497). The State accounts for a total of 4,091 active cases. Another 461 persons were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of persons discharged till date to 8,32,167. Six persons succumbed to the infection four in Chennai and one each in Chengalpattu and Coimbatore.

The lab functioned uninterrupted during the pandemic, and all patients were screened for COVID-19 before the procedure. A total of 5,043 cardiac intervention procedures have so far been performed at the lab, which was started in 2018. The 5,000th procedure was performed on February 16, hospital dean P. Balaji said in a press release.
