has she dated anyone since the verdict? no, she obviously can t do that. this young woman enjoyed being out and has had to come with the reality dealing with the fact that her daughter is dead, not coming back. and she s gotten through the shock of that and understanding it and dealing more and more with reality of what did and did not happen she s going to be there for a long time. casey as a person is complex. wow, you hit the nail on the head. is she ever going to tell her story cheney mason? she s been deluged with requests for interviews. the she ever going to give one? she may. now is not the time. when the bankruptcy proceedings are all over and the people that are chasing her for no good reason are done and it s all dismissed and she s completely free from the legal system she may very well consider interviews.
conversations with her over the years, that s it. no contact. reporter: her father? none. reporter: her sfwloer. none. not likely to ever be. she hasn t been freed from her incarceration yet because she can t go out. she can t do anything. i know that she has very very strong feelings about what has happened to her. i also know she s very saddened by her loss and she never will forget her daughter caylee. ever. reporter: jean casarez, cnn, new york. our thanks to jean casarez for that interview. the man that you saw in that piece, the defense attorney in the case, cheney mason, may be arguably one of the closest people to casey anthony ever since this trial wrapped up. and, in fact, after the break, he s going to speak to us a
cheney mason had suggested that perhaps she was incompetent to proceed, not necessarily because he actually felt she was incompetent at that time, but when you have a situation like that where logic tells you, you know, you should listen to all options and you re hearing something else, that is where i think cheney made that decision and then the judge stopped the trial and called it a legal issue. all right. both sides concur that a legal issue has arisen and had three doctors evaluate her that evening which all came back and said that she was competent to proceed. coming up, with the case cleared to move forward. attorney jose baez puts casey anthony to work preparing her own defense. she passed me her written report where she was able to intelligently articulate where law enforcement had made gaping mistakes. asthma doesn t affect my job. you were out sick last week.

heads, people polarizing based on race and what we ve seen around the country. to me, that s nothing short of a damn shame. that s not a black community, a white community, that s our community. it s 2013. it s time we get over this and start dealing with the facts. you know, you go in a courtroom, we have facts and evidence. there were no facts in this case that suggest racial anything. cheney mason, stay with me. we re going to take a short break. i want to bring in some people who have strong opinions about this case. jeffrey toobin and charles blow, jeanne weintraub. we ll have many more questions for them and from our studio audience.
