World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst has joined major British sporting figures in calling for people aged 70 and over to get their coronavirus vaccination.
Hurst, 79, had his jab last month and more than 14 million people have now received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine across the United Kingdom.
“For goodness sake, just get it done,” said former England striker Hurst, who scored a hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup final win against West Germany.

England’s 1966 World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst has led some of Britain’s sporting legends to urge people aged 70 and over yet to receive their coronavirus vaccination to join them in getting the jab.
Crystal Palace and former England Manager Roy Hodgson, former England cricketer turned commentator David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, 1969 Wimbledon Ladies Singles Champion Ann Jones CBE, five-time British Champion Jockey Willie Carson OBE and 1981 Grand National winner Bob Champion CBE have all received their first vaccination from the NHS, as members of the top 4 priority groups. They are set to receive their second doses within 12 weeks.
PHILADELPHIAÂ â A volunteer firefighter with the Cheltenham Fire Company was honored with the National Liberty Museumâs Act of Valor Award earlier this month for his work in the Philadelphia area amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
âIt was nice to be recognized by an organization like that,â said Fire Lt. Malik Willard, a 26-year firefighter with the Philadelphia Fire Department.
Willard, 50, of Philadelphia, also committed to dedicate his time in early 2020 as a way to âgive back a little to the volunteers,â at the Montgomery County agency.

After learning about the initiative earlier this summer, Willard said his friend and colleague Lt. Joseph Gardener nominated him for the award.
