SOS Prairie Rescue, one of the more than 30 animal rescues and shelters in Saskatchewan, is under an intake freeze. The shelter has rescued more than 700 cats this year, and there are 300 still on their waitlist.
Saskatchewan’s first cat café has announced plans to expand its operations north, after nearly being forced to permanently shut down during the pandemic.
REGINA The owner of Excalipurr Cat Café is sharing her financial struggles as she waits to welcome back customers to in-person dining. The adorable adoptable kittens at the Excalipurr Cat Café haven’t had the chance to socialize with the public for a few months. We have people coming out to spend time with the cats so not being able to have that public space for people to come in has really downsized our foot traffic. We don t have people coming in to see the cats so it’s hit us really hard,” Chelsey Legendre, the owner of the café said.
REGINA For three years Excalipurr Cat Cafe has been brewing drinks and finding homes for hundreds of Regina stray cats. In 2021, the café will be partnering with more rescues, to help find homes for more cats. We adopted out 320 cats to date with Regina Cat Rescue which were really proud of, but moving forward into 2021 we have changed our model of how we are running the café. Now we are going to be partnering with numerous rescues to hopefully adopt even more kitties,” Chelsey Legendre, the Owner of Excalipurr Cat Café said. Soon, the café will partner with SOS Prairie Rescue, a provincial resource that has rescued cats in more than 56 communities.
