PC Deniz Jaffer, 47, and PC Jamie Lewis, 32, will appear in court in connection with photographs taken and circulated in relation to the deaths of Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27. The two sisters suffered fatal stab wounds during an incident in Fryent Country Park, Wembley, in June last year. PC Jaffer and PC Lewis have both been charged with one count of misconduct in public office. They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 27.

The General Synod (the Church of England’s elected governing body) met by Zoom webinar on Saturday. The meeting was on YouTube, open to public viewing. The Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend Stephen Cottrell, presented an update on his ‘Vision and Strategy, outlining a ‘mixed ecology’ Church in which every member matters and resources should go to the first line of the ministry, with only necessary costs on central and diocesan structure and services.

Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, the next Bishop of Chelmsford, is set to named Church of England’s lead Bishop for housing. Currently the Bishop of Loughborough, she will be become the Bishop of the Chelmsford Diocese, which covers Epping Forest, Harlow, Waltham Forest and Redbridge, later this year. Next month the findings of a major two-year commission, set up by the Archbishop of Canterbury, examining the role of the church in tackling housing inequality will be published.
