Body of Kruger National Park field ranger discovered

ENVIRONMENT Forestry and Fisheries Minister, Barbara Creecy appealed to anyone with information on the death of a field ranger at the Kruger National Park to contact police.
Creecy on Saturday expressed her condolences to the family of field ranger Checkers Mashego following the discovery of a body at Kruger Park on Wednesday.
Human remains believed to be those of Mashego were discovered along with a number of personal items by a search party in the Stolsnek area of the Park late on December 17, 2020, exactly a month after his disappearance.

JOHANNESBURG - The body of a ranger who had been missing for a month has been found at the Kruger National Park.
It is understood that Checkers Mashego went missing during a routine patrol along the southern parts of the park on 17 November.
The exact circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear.
The Department of the Environment, Forestry and Fisheries said that Mashego had a decade s worth of experience and the members of the SANParks environmental crime investigative unit are now combing through the scene of his death.

Human remains believed to be that of a field ranger that went missing at the Kruger National Park have been discovered at the park.
The discovery is said to have been made not far from where the 51-year-old field ranger was last seen by his fellow colleague a month ago.
It has been a devastating time for the family since Checkers Mashego went to work and never came back. Mashego was reportedly on routine patrol along the Nsikazi River when he went missing. He has been working at the park as a field ranger for years. Family spokesperson, Eldah Ngutshane, has confirmed that the family has been informed of the discovery of human remains. She says the family can only wait for the DNA results. She says all they want is closure.

Just one day shy of a month after Checkers Mashego, a ranger in the Kruger National Park (KNP) went missing, his family has received devastating news.
The South African National Parks (SANParks) have been searching for Mashego since November, when he disappeared in the Stolsnek section of the park.
“The search was intensified as soon as we realised he was missing – we had a task team that came in which was the SAPS with the K9 unit and our ranger corps that have been moving through that area,” said SANParks spokesperson Ike Phaah
