Virtual gig raises £1000 for community radio station

Virtual gig raises £1000 for community radio station A virtual concert featuring more than a dozen local musicians and bands has raised a thousand pounds for CalonFM, Wrexham’s community radio station. The online gig, coordinated by one of CalonFM’s volunteers Chris Ingram, raised a total of £1,055 and will go towards ensuring the station is back on the airwaves. Heather Wilson, one of the directors of Wrexham Community Broadcasting, which is looking to retain CalonFM’s broadcasting licence, said: “Fundraising during Covid has been very difficult and we were really grateful for everybody’s support in getting this off the ground. Chris played a huge role in organising and coordinating the musicians and poets such as Evrah Rose so a big thanks to him.

Calon FM set to return to the airwaves with members of local community urged to get involved

Updated: Mon 10th May Calon FM set to return to the airwaves with members of local community urged to get involved A community radio station is set to return to the airwaves after being saved by a team of former presenters and staff. Calon FM was revived after the group stepped in after its closure earlier this year. At the time, the end of Calon FM after 13 years was attributed to the withdrawal of support from Wrexham Glyndwr University, which the radio station board said left them in an ‘untenable position’. However a group of volunteers organised and entered a process alongside two other interested entities to effectively take over the remnants of the Calon FM setup and then reboot a local station.

Calon FM set to return to the airwaves and urges community to get involved

A POPULAR radio station is coming back on air and they want everyone to be part of it. CalonFM is set to come back with a bang, and their first major event is an online concert with a fantastic range of local talent. Evrah Rose, Andy The Duke” Duncan, Check Masses and many more acts are confirmed for the gig, which will broadcast for 6 hours on May 23. The station ceased broadcasting in January after serving the local area for 13 years. However, a group of former presenters and ex-staff were determined to revive Calon under new community ownership. Their community company, Wrexham Community Broadcasting, has secured the OFCOM licence and has plans to increase broadcasting hours from a brand new, purpose built town-centre location.
