An effort to add two alternate members to Chattanooga s Police Advisory and Review Committee, which would have ensured all nine City Council districts have representation on the board, failed this week.
In an effort led mostly by Republican legislators, the General Assembly passed a bill earlier this year that essentially gutted the power of police oversight boards in the state.
Though public statements about what a new state law would do to the Chattanooga Police Advisory and Review Committee (PARC) have been a bit hyperbolic, it is a shame the Tennessee state lawmakers couldn t help meddling in a local process that appeared to be working.
