A couple of Martha’s Vineyard towns are getting new fire chiefs.
The MV Times reports Oak Bluffs has agreed to a three-year contract with Nelson Wirtz, a former Chatham Fire Captain.
The Vineyard Gazette reports West Tisbury selectmen voted unanimously to select Greg Pachico, who will become Chief pending a successful contract.
Pachico currently serves as the department s Deputy Chief.

O.B. hires Nelson Wirtz as new fire chief
The Oak Bluffs select board chose Nelson Wirtz of Brewster as the town’s next fire chief.
The Oak Bluffs select board chose W.F. Nelson Wirtz as the town’s next fire chief at a meeting Tuesday.
A career firefighter for the past 25 years, Wirtz is currently a captain with the Chatham Fire Department. Wirtz said his familiarity with Martha’s Vineyard, working in a seasonal community, and his education and training make him a great fit for the town. He added that his temperament and personality are well suited for Oak Bluffs.

Public safety officials confirmed the victim was 78 years old.
ORIGINAL STORY (March 17, 2021, 4:26 p.m.):
CHATHAM, Va. â A house fire in Chatham this morning claimed the life of one local resident.
Pittsylvania County Public Safety Director Chris Slemp confirmed the fatality shortly after crews left the scene this afternoon. It was a male, I don t know how old he was, Slemp said. The victim s family will be notified before his name is released.
The house sustained severe damage as a result of the fire, which was first reported around 11 a.m. this morning. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
