Newton boys stay unbeaten after win over Oskaloosa

The defense continues to be the team’s strong suit as the Cardinal boys’ basketball team locked down the Indians during a 58-36 road win on Friday night. “We played well defensively,” Newton coach Jason Carter said. “We got lots of tips and were pretty active.” It took a while to get going offensively as the Cardinals led 8-6 after one quarter. But Newton (3-0 overall, 2-0 in the conference) scored at least 16 points in the other three periods to cruise to a third straight win.

No 10 Grinnell too much for Newton girls

Unfortunately, that opponent was Class 4A No. 10 Grinnell. On Tuesday, in the season opener for both teams, the Tigers were quicker and simply made more shots from outside in a 65-31victory during Little Hawkeye Conference play.
