When it comes to maintaining comprehensive and watchful care of a patient, the act of speaking up can be invaluable.
Itâs something that won Julie Miller the âVirginians Speak Up for Safetyâ award from the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association in early March, which is given to two health care workers in the state each quarter.
Miller, a nurse at Centra Healthâs inpatient geriatric psychiatric unit, said sheâs always enjoyed getting to know her patients, talking to them and helping to make positive changes in their lives.
âYou canât spend 12 hours a day with 12 patients and not know them â and sometimes theyâre there for weeks on end, so you get to know them very well,â she said.
