CHAS Reopens Online Covid Vaccination Portal; Expects Another Rush Of Applications

Credit Doug Nadvornick/SPR Spokane’s CHAS Health is taking Covid vaccination appointments right now. The agency announced Monday that it expects to receive another 4,000 vaccine doses tomorrow and should be ready to begin another round of inoculations from Thursday through Sunday. Kelley Charvet, the chief administrative officer at CHAS, says, as with last week, when the online process crashed briefly, the provider expects a large number of people who want vaccines to try to get in quickly to make online appointments. “It is our hope, again, that, combined with increased resources toward technology and phones, that we’re going to have an improved user experience with all of our scheduling opportunities tonight. We may still experience some technical difficulties, but both CHAS and our vendors are making all adjustments necessary to be able to meet the influx of traffic, she said.

Thousands Seek Covid Vaccines At Spokane Arena Megasite

Credit Doug Nadvornick/SPR It took only about two hours for 3,000 people to sign up for Covid vaccines that will be administered at the Spokane Arena. On Wednesday, people logged onto the CHAS Health website and jammed its phone lines for their chance to claim one of site’s first 3,000 doses from the state. CHAS, which is doing the inoculations, says it received more than 60,000 online attempts in the first few hours after the online appointment site opened. That crashed the site. Kelley Charvet from CHAS says the phones were busy too, even though people were encouraged to make appointments online. Charvet says CHAS has fortified both the online and phone systems to handle more traffic. And she says the state Department of Health will soon offer help with people wanting to make appointments via phone.

Following a chaotic start, CHAS Health has made a handful of logistical changes that should help alleviate some issues at the Spokane Arena vaccination site. Wednesday started with eager community members first encountering issues with CHAS’ appointment scheduling site. Those who were able to get an appointment then had to wait in long lines in order to actually get their vaccine. Spokane Police were not called to the area to assist with traffic until the afternoon, but that will change under CHAS’ new plan. Some changes are being made to help traffic flow around the Arena and to ensure a more efficient and effective parking experience. Police, along with staff from the Arena and the Washington National Guard, will also be stationed at every entrance to the parking lot to help direct traffic. The site has also suspended COVID-19 testing through Friday as organizers e

Covid Vaccine Notes: Arena Site To Open Wednesday, Second Dose Advice

Credit Doug Nadvornick/SPR Spokane’s mass Covid vaccination site is scheduled to open Wednesday at the Arena. It will be operated by CHAS Health, which has been operating a testing site in the facility’s parking lot. The clinic is a response to a request by Washington state officials to open a place big enough to vaccinate large numbers of people at one time. The caveat is that there are enough doses available. That’s not a sure thing. A CHAS spokeswoman said on Friday that the agency had not yet received the vaccine for Wednesday’s event. CHAS says people who want to be inoculated will have to register that morning on its website for an appointment. There will be no “show up and get your shot” option. They say more details will be available on Tuesday.
