Staff at a Northumberland care home say they were devastated when Covid-19 claimed the lives of some of their beloved residents after months keeping infection at bay.

THE chair of trustees at one of the district s leading care homes has thanked the community for overwhelming support following a Covid outbreak. The Tyne Valley was rocked when the long-established Charlotte Straker House at Corbridge confirmed that a number of residents had died of the virus, while some members of staff had been taken ill. Despite the devastating setback, workers unaffected by the virus at the home are continuing to provide care for the remaining residents. Chair of trustees Berenice Groves spoke to the Courant on Wednesday, just days after making the news public.

ONE of the district s leading care homes has revealed that some of its residents have died as a result of coronavirus. Charlotte Straker House at Corbridge has also reported that many of its staff have tested positive for Covid-19. However, the home said it was continuing to provide care and doing its utmost to protect residents and staff who remained at the home. In a statement published on social media, chair of trustees Berenice Groves praised staff who were working long hours, and revealed some were staying in accommodation provided by the Angel Inn at Corbridge, to protect their own families and remain close to Charlotte Straker House in case of emergencies.
