Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education on Monday welcomed newly hired staff members to the district.
Andrea Barry, seventh-grade science, Sturgis Middle School. Barry has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Michigan State University with minors in psychology and sociology. She completed her teacher certification program from Eastern Michigan University with a major in elementary provisional, K-8, and minors in language arts and science. Barry taught language arts for two years at American International School Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. She previously taught in Marshall and Lincoln City, Ore.
Katie Bir, first grade, Wall Elementary. Bir graduated from University of Arizona with a Bachelor in Education Studies and a Master in Business Administration. Most recently, she was a long-term substitute teacher at Wall. Bir was an intelligence analyst for National Security Agency, U.S. Air Force.
LAGRANGE â Seniors Sadie Edsall and Keirstin Roose have been named valedictorians of Lakeland Jr/.Sr. High Schoolâs Class of 2021. Lakeland Principal Robert Albaugh made the announcement Monday.
Edsall is the daughter of Raymond and Charlotte Edsall of LaGrange. According to the school Edsall will attend either Purdue University, Rose Hulman University or Trine University in the fall. She has been offered a full scholarship to each institution.
While in high school, Edsall was inducted into Lakelandâs National Honor Society, and is a member of the schoolâs Science Academic Team. She also played varsity basketball and golf.
Edsall said her favorite memory of her time at Lakeland was winning back-to-back NECC golf titles.
