Tax, fee increase could be on the way for Ranlo

Ranlo officials are considering major belt tightening moves as part of the upcoming budget process which could drive up property taxes and fees for city residents after July 1.  Ranlo Town Manager Jonathan Blanton unveiled his proposed budget during a three-hour special session in March that recommended a 25% property tax increase, from 40 cents per $100 of property value to 50 cents per $100 of property value. For example, a person owning a $150,000 house would pay $750 in city property taxes, an increase of $150 from the current rate. The person would also have to pay county property taxes.  That s not the only proposed hike. Water and power customers would see their bills increase a minimum of $6 per month, with $10-$12 per customer a more likely figure.
