Jean-Eric Paquet, head of the European Commission’s research directorate, is set to take up a new role as EU ambassador to Japan on 1 September. Rumours about Paquet’s departure have been circulating since early spring, but the Commission would not confirm the speculation until the decision was signed off. This week, EU’s High Representative Josep Borrell officially nominated Paquet for the role in Japan.
The departure of Jean-Eric Paquet, the head of the European Commission’s directorate general for research and innovation (DG-RTD), has not been officially confirmed as yet, but the Brussels rumour mill is already churning out potential replacements.
