it s the first day of the uci cycling world championship in glasgow today, but it s been a disappointing start for great britain. the defence of their men s team pursuit title ended after a crash in qualifying, as charlie tanfield slipped coming out of the final corner. britain were already down to three riders so did not set an official time and went out of the competition, having been on course for the second fastest qualifying time behind denmark. tanfield received medical treatment on the track for several minutes before being able to walk off unassisted. meanwhile, the venue for the next rugby league world cup has changed again. that was also due to be in france in 2025 but was postponed a year after they withdrew for financial reasons. so now the southern hemisphere will host the tournament in 2026 the last edition of the competition was held in the uk in 2022. the same year france was awarded hosting rights for the next one after initial plans for it to be held in north america
