USW keeping Sudbury strikers in the dark as it resumes bargaining with Vale
Vale strikers (USW Local 6500)
As 2,450 workers at the Vale mining complex in Sudbury, Ontario near the end of their second month of strike action against the transnational company’s concessions demands, the United Steelworkers (USW) has resumed closed-door negotiations with management. Thus far, the union has refused point blank to say anything of substance about its talks with Vale, including making any commitment to oppose further givebacks.
The strike at what was the centre of the Inco nickel-mining empire until Vale bought it in 2006 erupted on June 1, after workers decisively repudiated a USW-blessed, concessions-filled tentative contract agreement.

As part of a competition run by this newspaper and Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure, people were asked to reply to a social media post with a photo of their lockdown snowman.

Teenage cyclist seeks support for pump bike facility at Edwinstowe Published: 07:17, 03 January 2021
A 14-year-old has started a community survey to gain support for what he calls a growing trend of pump biking.
Passionate cyclist Charlie Sheppard, of Edwinstowe, said the skatepark installed on Jubilee Park was a great investment for the community.
However, he said it was only targeted towards scooters and skateboarders â not for the increasingly-popular pump riders.

Pump riding is done on a track with a looped sequence of rollers and banked turns. It is designed to maximise your momentum, so one can ride with minimal pedalling.
