good evening. it s been the first full day of action at the tokyo olympics and we ve seen some of team gb s medal hopes in action. for the second games in a row, though, cyclist geraint thomas crashed in the men s road race, but there was a great performance from swimmer adam peaty, as he began the defence of his title. our sports correspondent natalie pirks has more from tokyo. this road race was described as a war of attrition long, hot and hilly with an early crash. just like in rio, history repeated itself. thomas was determined to leave it on its road, but he was starting to flag. mount fuji beckoned it s all its brutish brutal beauty, but thomas was out in likely his last olympics. adam yates was the highest place britain, but richard carol has claimed ecuador s second goal richard carapaz. more big names today beginning their quest. peaty is as close to a medal as you can get. he s unbeaten in seven years of the 100 metre breaststroke. helen glover has won back
