A plan to redevelop the largely vacant Charlestowne Mall on St. Charles east side has been shelved after several St. Charles aldermen and plan commissioners questioned whether the proposal was the best plan for the site.
A Feb. 8 public hearing in front of the St. Charles Plan Commission has been canceled to allow additional time for plans to be revised in relation to existing wetlands on the site and stormwater detention. The public hearing will be rescheduled.
The public next week will have the chance to weigh in on an apartment development proposed near the city s east side that is already generating its fair share of controversy.
St. Charles aldermen are weighing whether razing the majority of the largely vacant Charlestowne Mall to make way for 560 apartments and townhouses, a hotel and new restaurants and retail along East Main Street is the best plan for the site.
