CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Activist groups held a press conference on Thursday demanding the release of video involving the death of an inmate at the Charleston County jail.
The groups, who include the ACLU of South Carolina and Charleston Black Lives Matter, said they are calling for full transparency and accountability in Jamal Sutherlandâs death at the Al Cannon Detention Center which continues to be investigated.

A cyber-physical solutions and engineering company that has had a presence in South Carolina for more than 25 years is expanding its operations in Charleston County with a $7.3 million investment that will create 126 new jobs.
M.C. Dean, Inc., located on Remount Road, designs, builds, operates and maintains cyber-physical solutions for facilities, secure environments, complex infrastructure and global enterprises, the company said.
The company will be looking for an array of employees, including engineers, project managers and technicians.

Dean’s global reach will benefit greatly from its presence within business-friendly North Charleston,” North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said. “Perfectly positioned to meet the company’s high demands and a workforce capable of fulfilling M.C. NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The city of North Charleston and tri-county leaders are looking at ways to improve access to healthy food in areas most needed. For a long time, areas in the city’s South End have been considered “food deserts,” meaning they have limited access to affordable and healthy foods.
The Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments received a grant from the National Center for Mobility Management, and they are using it to improve access to food in those areas.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A new housing study shows South Carolinians continue to struggle to find affordable places to live.
SC Housing released the results of its 2021 SC Housing Needs Assessment. It is an update to the original 2019 report and shares much of the same findings which boils down to thereâs not enough affordable housing in the state.

ISLE OF PALMS S.C. - Dorchester County passed a resolution in support of a bill in the state senate that would ensure free parking and state control along public roads in beach towns.
Dorchester County joins a growing list of other Lowcountry counties and cities sending similar messages to the state.
“On behalf of our citizens, we do want to see access remain free and unrestricted,” Dorchester County Council Chairman Bill Hearn said.
