Ilion resident Jack Schoendorf couldn’t visit Donna, his wife of 62 years, between September and mid-March.
Donna, 83, has lived in a long-term care home at Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford for the past seven years. Schoendorf, 86, used to visit her five days a week from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the COVID-19 pandemic closed nursing home doors to visitors.
Over the fall and winter, they just talked on the telephone four or five times a day, Schoendorf said, because neither of them has the technological ability for a video call.
When asked, Schoendorf said in mid-March that he wasn’t sure how Donna was doing.
