Okpala is a Chartered Scientist (CSci) of the Science Council-UK, Fellow - Institute of Food Science and Technology (FIFST-UK), Fellow of The Linnaean Society of London (FLS), Professional Engineer (PEng-UK), as well as Member - International Association of Food Protection (MIAFP-USA). He underwent Food Researcher training at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow-UK. He has a list of other notable credentials/honors.
