A slew of statewide and county candidates filed petitions with the Illinois State Board of Elections and the Cook County clerk’s office on the first day of the week-long filing period to gain a spot on the March 19 primary ballot.
Both candidates are current U.S. Representatives Casten in the 6th District, Newman in the 3rd District and are facing off in the 6th District, which includes many of Chicago’s western suburbs.
Most of the Republicans running for Illinois 6th Congressional District seat said they believe humankind has a role in global climate change but not all are convinced.
One of the Republicans seeking Illinois 6th Congressional District seat wants to eliminate voting by mail and early voting, while another said military troops or security guards should be posted at polling places.
