The revolutionary war era. Mark is a delightful historian. I wish i could get him to laugh on q. His most on cue. His most distinctive feature is is left. Were delighted to have him speak on the first shots of the civil war at fort sumter. Mark . Mark thank you very much for that introduction, chris, and its a pleasure to be able to speak at this symposium for the emerging civil war. We would love to have done it in person, but being able to do it digitally like this is a wonderful way to do it, as well. But yeah, as chris mentioned, my main passion is the American Revolutionary war. But i worked for the National Park service, and we take care of a lot of important civil war sites. I actually started my career with the National Park service as an intern down at fort sumter in charleston, South Carolina. I worked there for about a year, in charleston, South Carolina, if youve never been, its a beautiful town. Theres a lot of history, revolutionary war history, but most people associate
Will speak with local authors about the citys history, starting with its link to booker t. Washington. And in about 20 minutes, the Chemical Spill that contaminated charlestons water system and then in 50 minutes, theWest Virginia teachers strike. We begin with booker t. Washington. Booker t. Washington was for 20 years the spokesman and leader of African Americans in america and at the time we had horrible jim crow race notes in the south, that didnt happen here in West Virginia. It was a different sort of Race Relations and what he observed with his heroes was the building of a black middle class and that became his path, his career path as he went from dusky to being a National Celebrity. Booker was born in a place called hales ford south of roanoke virginia, 220 miles from here and in those first nine years he was a slave boy. He didnt have pants. He wore a slave boys shirt, shoes were two wooden slats with a piece of leather across each toe across thetop. He wanted very much to go
And as a city, we have reiterated policies that do that. So i dont want to do that to the businesses back there. So i do think theres some work that still could be done to relocate the entrance of the garage to harrison street. I think that at 120 , the extra b. M. R. Unit is not a b. M. R. Unit. I said this at the last hearing. The market rent for that apartment in the mission right now is just barely above 120 b. M. R. For the past couple of years, the a. M. I. Has been riding faster than the c. P. I. , which is what the rent control increase is based on. So i can see a scenario if things keep going this way, and in a couple of years that b. M. R. Unit will be more expensive than the market. First of all, its business address for your owner because theyre going to have an upside down unit and still have to rent it through the housing and go through the lottery, but to the community it doesnt benefit. So i would like to see, as commissioner hill has stated, more work on that, on provi
Planning commission and city of San Francisco office of cannabis for restoring hope in our community through the Equity Program. It shows that my city that i love and care about shows equality. Thank you. Good evening, planning commission. I just want to speak on the tenancy issue. For two years now, we had a lease for the location. We were aware that the current tenant is monthtomonth, so any fact, we are not taking them out , the landlord has the intention of doing that anyway, and i also have a letter here from the landlord for all of you to explain how he told it to us, and i just wanted to relay, for two years we have been working on this really hard. We have been doing everything we can, and i just hope our work pays off. I am eric grayson, a member of the flight crew. I just dont want to hold you guys up. It was named after my mother, and i appreciate your time. It has been a long process. Thank you. Thank you very much. We will open up this item for Public Comment. Anyone who w
This audience really merits it. I thought maybe one day if i write this book and people notice it maybe one day the mayor of charleston will be holding it in front of an audience, a packed house. This is what happened one week after the book was released. Its truly beyond my wildest dreams. The book tells the story of reconstruction and im going to read some passages from it some of which you will see from the Police Department some that deal with the mayor and the current mayor here. The point is we are all heirs to something. We have no say. We are born where we are and we have no say in what we inherit and all we have control of his will he do with it. We can recount some of the triumphs and some of the greatest tragedies but i think moving on from the tragedy of 2015 you created this group. You decided intentionally to create the space word difficult issues in the community could be discussed. It would have been easy and very human to say the murder was not from charleston, you hav
