The mansion at ashland is a unique situation. Clays original home had to be torn down and rebuilt. It fell into disrepair and could not be fixed, so he rebuilt on the original foundation. What we have is a home that is essentially a fivepart federal style home as henry clay had it with italian details architectural elements, and an added layer of aesthetic details added by henry clays granddaughter and greatgranddaughter.
