Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984
Christopher Nolan’s Tenet did not, in the end, save cinema. Despite a healthy haul at the UK box-office – £17.4 million, a remarkably hearty sum considering the climate – it could only go so far in the face of socially-distanced cinemas, audience uncertainty, and an oncoming second-wave.
But wait! Here comes Wonder Woman 1984, defiantly leaping over the horizon, golden lasso flailing wildly, with lashings of super-heroism at the ready, to save the world on screen, and possibly the cinema industry with it. Exhibitors, who finally have a bona fide blockbuster ready to screen after a desolate few months, are excited.
