Published July 21. 2021 11:12PM  Associated Press CRANSTON, R.I. A 74-year-old Rhode Island man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for fatally shooting his girlfriend’s son. Charles Gangi, of Cranston, pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree murder in Providence County Superior Court on Monday, state Attorney General Peter Neronha announced on Wednesday. Superior Court Justice Maureen Keough handed Gangi a 60-year sentence with 30 years to serve at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston and the balance suspended with probation. Gangi admitted to shooting 41-year-old Paul Zois five times with a revolver during an argument in December in their home. Zois’ mother and aunt were present when the shooting occurred, but were not injured, The Providence Journal reports.

December 30, 2020 1:49 pm CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – A Cranston man will remain behind bars after being charged for the murder of his girlfriend’s son. Charles Gangi, 73, was arraigned remotely from the ACI Wednesday morning. He was charged with Murder in the 1st degree, Discharge of a Firearm Resulting in Death, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – Firearm, and Discharge of a Firearm in a Compact Area. Cranston Police were called to a residence on B Street around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report that someone had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found a man unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
