SPOKANE, Wash. The man accused of lighting fire to St. Charles Parrish and School now faces federal arson charges.
A federal grand jury in Spokane returned an indictment charging 23-year-old Rio A. Mirabal in relation to the March fire. He was already facing state charges.
Investigators said the fire caused extensive damage to the church rectory and the hallway of the school.
Police identified Mirabel as the suspect through surveillance footage. A family member turned him in and police said forensic evidence tied him to the scene.
If Mirabel is found guilty, he faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years. He could also face a $250,000 fine.
